Sri Sri Swami Swarupananda(Babamoni) was a renowned thinker and a versatile genius who was born in the late 1800s in Chandpur, formerly known as District Comilla of undivided Bengal during British India’s time. In this post, we discuss Babamoni’s vision and mission.
Early Life
Babamoni’s date of birth is unknown, and no documentation has been found to verify it. He was the son of a wealthy, religious, and benevolent family.
Sri Harihar Gangopadhyay, Zamindar and renowned for his profound knowledge, was the grandfather of Sri Sri Babamoni.
Srijukto Satish Chandra Gangopadhyay (a prominent lawyer) was his father, while Srijukta Mamata Devi was his mother. He was known as ‘Baltu’ and ‘Bankim’ in his youth.
He was good in school and he did a lot of activities. He went on to become an orator, poet, vocalist, composer, and painter. He also worked as a carpenter and an engineer when he was younger. In addition to being celibate while pursuing a scientific career at the same time, he was also a scientist.
Babamoni’s Vission and Mission
He wanted the people of India to have freedom. But he also knew that their misery could not be fixed until the idea of character building is put into place for everyone. He started a movement called the Character Building Movement in 1914. It is still relevant today.
Babamoni dedicated his life to work and devotion. His selfless love was apparent in all of his activities. He was kind beyond belief and had a truly divine sense of humor. He was an inspiration by example and seeing Babamoni perform Samabeta Upasana inspired the blessed spectator to desire to worship the Divine as well.
His life long work
AYACHAK ASHRAM
Sri Sri Babamoni founded the Ayachak Ashram in Purulia, now Jharkhand, when Pupunki (then Manbhum, now Dist. Purulia).
The Saint, Sri Sri Babamoni, has appropriately named his Ashram as “AYACHAK,” which means ‘ONE WHO NEVER BEGS.’
Sri Sri Babamoni told Ayachak Ashram that self-realization is only available to the strong. It cannot be achieved through begging.
It was hard for him to establish an Ashram as a Non-begging Saint. He had to fast nearly every day.
Several additional Ayachak Ashrams were established throughout His lifetime in Guwahati, Andal, Rajgir, Benares, Tripura, and Kolkata.
It was stated that He established Ayachak Ashram at Village Rahimpore, Dist-Comilla (now in Bangladesh). On April 21, 1984, He left His body for heavenly abode in Gurudham, Kolkata, and after His passing SRI SRI MAMONI, his designated successor established Ayachak Ashram
By His continual blessings, AYACHAK ASHRAM, in accordance with the principle of Abhiksha, is on its magnificent way, carrying out a series of charity projects from its many branches throughout India.
THE MULTIVERSITY
The Multiversity was established by His Divine Grace Sri Srimat Swami Swarupananda Paramhansa Dev in the year 1973-1974 and registered under the West-Bengal Societies Act, 1961, with Registration No. S\13107 of 1973-74 dated 15th June 1975. The purpose is to be for the public good and for students and inmates of The Multiversity.
He started his struggle for the elimination of idleness from village to village, beginning at school and continuing through college. From institution to institution, he travelled, preaching the same message: self-restraint and Brahmacharya. Akhandalis were formed in villages and towns by his followers and admirers, who dubbed them as such.
The aims and objectives of the institution are to make sure that everyone has their economic condition improved. That is what the institution does.
Established at Pupunki – a remote and unknown village in the then-District of Manbhum, now Bokaro, in the State of Jharkhand.
The Multiversity is an educational institute that is very different from a university.
The Multiversity is a new school that welcomes students. The students in the neighbouring villages can go to this school and learn for free.
There is a hostel for students who live far from the college and attend it. Food and other expenses such as tuition and electricity are paid for by students. However, they reside close to the institution. Because of this school, many of these pupils have been successful.
The decline of their families’ economic circumstances and the rise in their moral quality are all good outcomes that stem from this.
To improve the people’s morale and to make them aware of being clean, The Multiversity arranged local meetings, exhibitions, and seminars at regular intervals. This did not interfere with the students’ or teachers’ studies. They told the people about how being clean can have an effect on their daily lives.
In order to do good for society, the Multiversity believes that a person must first build his or her character in their youth.
The Multiversity was founded by a man who liked to teach. He aspired to instil in his pupils the importance of good values and character development. The Multiverse teaches everyone, regardless of caste, language, or religion, since it is non-religious.
The Multiverse pays for all the costs when we work together. This procedure is still in progress.
The Multiversity plants seeds in the gardens. The seeds are free to people in the village. The Multiversity teaches people about agriculture, floriculture, and topography. Sri Sri Babamoni invented a way to do social service that didn’t involve begging. The Multiversity does the same in the public.
The Multiversity wants to provide people with new vistas for their daily life without taking any money from them. This is because they believe in not begging and instead teaching. They want to teach people to learn and help them learn what the students need.
AYURVEDIC MEDICINES
In the beginning, there was a severe money problem. Sri Sri Babamoni had to subsist on just ‘Mahua leaf’ because he was so low on cash. However, this could not deter him from giving selfless service to humanity, and it is difficult to determine his occupation since it was so tough.
He is the master of all trades, in word and spirit. He was efficient in a variety of areas of endeavour, which is why He was an excellent Ayurvedic Physician and wrote the book “Ayurvedic Chikitsa” in Bengali.
Sri Sri Babamoni founded an Ayurvedic Medicine Factory at the Ayachak Ashram in Varanasi in ancient times. The sale proceeds of these medications are used to generate income. Some of these medicines are distributed for free while others are sold.
‘Om’ Kar Mantra
Swamiji utilized different Mantras of various Deities to Sadhana and realized that all mantras and gods merge into the transcendent Omkar mantra. He sang, “HariOm HariOm HariOm” with great delight: God is One, God is everywhere, and everything else.
He revived the concept of One God Of Upanishad, breaking down the prejudices and inhibitions that had kept it from being practised.
Akhaanda Mandali
The first Akhaanda Mandali was established in 1915. The main task of the Mandali is to perform weekly Samabeta Upasana. Self-improvement is done by observing discipline as enunciated by Babamini and doing social work for Jagatmangal.
Many people got attention for the Morality Campaign. Young people started to go there more and more. Gradually, ashrams based on this campaign were created in Pupunuki (1927).
He was awakened to the Samabeta Upasana, in which people of all castes, creeds, sexes and adherents of all religions could meet under one banner: Pranab Mantra.
